Beware of Unaccredited Colleges
I have been trying to find the best online colleges for a few different degrees lately, and I really thought I had them narrowed down for a bit there. Upon closer inspection though, I found that three of the ten colleges I had on my list of prospects didn't have national accreditations. I didn't think anything of that at first, but then I started researching all the crap that comes along with going to an unaccredited college. Long story short, I never ever plan to do that.
Why You Shouldn't Attend an Unaccredited College:- You can't transfer your degree to another school if you want to get a graduate degree.
- You can't get scholarships from most financial aid institutions.
- You can't trust the validity of the education or the educators.
- You can't be sure you are prepared for your career.
- You can't get a job with most employers.
Simply put, you can't start your future if you are working on a degree from an unaccredited college. You may learn a thing or two, but you won't be able to use that knowledge for much of anything. Chances are you'll pay thousands upon thousands of dollars for a degree that doesn't mean anything. You might as well print one for yourself in Microsoft Word and call it a day.
If you're only going to college for a class or two, you may get away with attending an unaccredited university. This would only apply to times when you want to go to a class for personal reasons, not an actual degree. Even then though, you might as well find an eBook or seminar to teach you the same information. It will cost less, and it may provide you with more specific information. Think carefully about your options in the future and pick the one that's right for you.
Do Employers Acknowledge Online Degrees?
Ten years ago, the idea of getting a degree online may have seemed a bit preposterous. Employers would have laughed you out of the office for thinking that crap was going to fly with them. In the modern world though, everything is different. The best online colleges have sought to make their curriculums just like those in traditional universities, so the degrees offered through them are respected now more than ever. Indeed, you can get a job if you have a degree from the internet.
The one thing you have to be sure of is the fact that your online college is accredited. Without this accreditation, you really don't have a degree. You can find out this information from the school itself or from one of the many accreditation boards in the U.S. If everything works out the way it should, you will have no issues using your online degree to land jobs in the future. Hopefully that relieves a bit of stress that may have been following you around lately.
